23, Oct, 2025: The General Traffic Department (GTD) has announced a significant new penalty: vehicles found committing certain severe traffic violations will now be impounded for a period of two months. This mandate takes effect immediately via a new circular.
The four violations that trigger immediate vehicle seizure are: wrong overtaking, parking in prohibited areas, obstructing traffic, and blocking roads. The department stated these stringent measures are designed to enhance road safety, maintain smooth traffic flow, and strongly deter reckless driving. The GTD urges all motorists to strictly adhere to traffic laws to avoid the two-month penalty.
