Traffic Department Imposes Two-Month Vehicle Impoundment for Road Obstruction
6th, Oct, 2025: The General Traffic Department has initiated strict enforcement of Articles 207 and 209 of the Traffic Law’s Executive Regulations, authorizing the impoundment of vehicles that cause traffic disruption for up to two months.
This action comes in response to surveillance footage and reports highlighting a rise in drivers causing congestion and traffic jams. Advanced road surveillance systems—including new-generation cameras, patrols, and drones—have increasingly detected violations such as improper overtaking, deliberate obstruction, and intentional disruption of traffic flow. Authorities have identified these behaviors as primary causes of congestion nationwide.
Vehicles found in violation face impoundment for a period not exceeding 60 days, in addition to fines ranging from 15 to 20 Kuwaiti dinars. The Department stressed that the goal is to promote road safety and responsible driving, not simply to levy fines.
The Traffic Department also confirmed that repeated serious violations by expatriate drivers—particularly those involving overtaking rules or deliberate obstruction—may lead to deportation.
Key Violations Targeted:
- Violating overtaking rules and regulations.
- Deliberately obstructing traffic.
- Intentionally disrupting movement.
