India: In a major move for international travelers, the Indian government has increased the duty-free limit for imported goods to ₹75,000. Effective February 2, this update replaces the decade-old cap of ₹50,000, offering significant relief to returning residents.
While Indian-origin travelers (excluding infants) now enjoy a ₹75,000 limit, the allowance for foreign nationals has also been raised from ₹15,000 to ₹25,000. Note that these exemptions do not apply to restricted items like firearms, bulk tobacco, alcohol exceeding two liters, or flat-screen televisions.
Regarding jewelry, residents who have stayed abroad for over a year retain specific duty-free limits: 40 grams for female passengers and 20 grams for male passengers.
