Kuwaiti engineer Sarah Aboerjaib has reached a significant milestone by becoming the first Arab recipient of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) award since its inception two years ago. This accolade marks a notable achievement for Kuwaiti youth on the international stage. Following a ceremony honoring Aboerjaib, Dr. Amthal Al-Huwailah, Kuwait’s Minister of Social Affairs, Family and Childhood Affairs, and Minister of State for Youth Affairs, lauded Aboerjaib’s groundbreaking success. Dr. Al-Huwailah described the award as a testament to Kuwaiti youth’s excellence in scientific and technological fields. Aboerjaib earned the WIPO award amid stiff competition from approximately 667 inventors representing 107 countries.

Dr. Al-Huwailah highlighted the importance of Aboerjaib’s invention, which focuses on diagnosing brain injuries. This innovation is considered a valuable contribution to the healthcare sector, promising to significantly enhance medical diagnostic processes.

The Minister also underscored the ongoing support and encouragement from state institutions, particularly the Public Authority for Youth, as directed by Kuwaiti political leadership. This support aims to foster creativity, innovation, and pioneering achievements among Kuwaiti youth.

In response to the recognition, Aboerjaib expressed her gratitude and acknowledged the positive impact of the political leadership’s support for the youth sector. She noted that this recognition is a personal boost, motivating her to advance her research and make further significant contributions in her field. Aboerjaib’s award-winning invention utilizes light-emitting technology combined with artificial intelligence for the early detection of tumors and brain hemorrhages.
