Elderly lady acquitted in ‘yalla, yalla’ lawsuit

The Court of Appeals acquitted a woman accused of verbally abusing her son’s wife on WhatsApp. The court found that the daughter-in-law had provoked the woman, who was in her sixties, by portraying herself as a victim. The daughter-in-law had sent a list of prohibitions and recorded a video call in which she spoke disrespectfully to the elderly woman. The court ruled that the provocations justified the woman’s response, where she called the daughter-in-law “impolite” and “an animal.” Lawyer Abdul Mohsen Al-Qattan argued that the accusations were malicious and highlighted the delay in reporting the incident, leading to the woman’s acquittal.
