India won the T20 World Cup with a thrilling seven-run victory over South Africa at Kensington Oval. Virat Kohli scored 76, helping India post 176-7. Heinrich Klaasen’s quick 52 brought South Africa close, but India’s bowling secured the win.
After the match, Kohli announced his retirement from T20 Internationals, saying, “This was my last T20 game playing for India.”
South Africa finished on 169-8, with Hardik Pandya taking 3-20. India had a tough start, slipping to 34-3, but Kohli’s innings stabilized them. South Africa’s chase was bolstered by Quinton de Kock (39) and Tristan Stubbs (31), and Klaasen’s explosive 15th over.
Needing 26 off the last 23 balls, Jasprit Bumrah’s excellent 18th over swung the game back in India’s favor. Arshdeep Singh’s tight bowling in the penultimate over left South Africa needing 16 from the final over. Pandya’s composure and Suryakumar Yadav’s spectacular catch helped secure the win for India.
