According to an Interior Ministry official on Sunday, more than 65,000 individuals who violated residency regulations took advantage of the grace period provided by the authorities to adjust their status in the country.
Brigadier Yousef Al-Ayoub, Director of the General Department of Residency at the Interior Ministry, told Kuwait News Agency that the grace period, which lasted from March 14 to June 30, 2024, was part of the state’s humanitarian approach to allow violators to correct their status and comply with legal requirements. Most of these violators were located in Mahboula and Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh.
Since the grace period ended, about 4,650 people have been apprehended, and those deported will not be permitted to return to Kuwait. Sponsors of these violators will face restrictions and will be informed of their sponsored individuals’ arrests and legal proceedings through the Sahel application.
Deported individuals without travel documents will receive emergency travel papers before their departure. The Interior Ministry has increased its efforts over the past three months to enforce residency laws and address violations. The grace period was intended to give violators a chance to resolve their status legally.
The issue of residency violations has affected society, with some individuals turning to illegal activities to survive. This campaign also serves as a warning to sponsors who bring people into the country and then abandon them, contributing to lawlessness and confusion.- KUNA
