Kuwait Union of Domestic Labor Offices (KUDLO) Chairman Khaled Al-Dakhnan stated that the KD750 fee for recruiting domestic workers from the Republic of the Philippines, including the airfare, does not align with the actual costs in the source country. In a statement to the newspaper, Al-Dakhnan highlighted that increasing the recruitment fee to KD850, excluding airfare, would allow recruitment offices to provide domestic workers with a minimal profit margin and at a reasonable cost.
He emphasized that the current recruitment fee does not meet the needs of recruitment offices. In a related development, newly appointed Minister of Commerce and Industry Khalifa Abdullah Dhahi Ajeel Al-Askar has called for amendments to this decision. He mentioned that the actual cost, including airfare, ranges from $2,400 to $2,500, which is approximately KD733 to KD764, in addition to the embassy fee of KD3.250, airport fee of KD5, and handling fee of KD10.
He further explained that the total recruitment cost ranges from KD751 to KD782. Therefore, recruitment offices will face challenges hiring workers if the current decision stays in place, especially considering the rise in operational costs and the potential losses if a worker is returned during the probationary period, requiring a return ticket and a full refund to the client.
