In a decisive move to ensure the emergency lane remains clear for emergency vehicles, Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Bu Hassan, head of the Traffic Awareness Department at the General Traffic Department, announced stringent penalties for those misusing this lane. Offenders face vehicle impoundment for two months, up to 15 days in prison, and a fine of 25 dinars if the case is brought to court. During an appearance on the “This Morning” program yesterday, Bu Hassan urged drivers not to drive or park in the emergency lane, emphasizing that it is strictly reserved for emergency vehicles. He confirmed that surveillance cameras are actively monitoring violators to ensure appropriate penalties are enforced.
Bu Hassan highlighted that traffic patrols deployed nationwide will issue tickets and seize vehicles found on the road shoulder. He also advised drivers whose vehicles experience sudden breakdowns or emergency stops to promptly move their vehicles away from the emergency lane. This action is crucial for the safety of all road users and to avoid the specified violations. Regarding the increase in juvenile traffic violations, Bu Hassan confirmed that the Operations Department at the General Traffic Department is intensifying its efforts to address this issue.
