The Ministry of Interior has announced several amendments to the Traffic Law, set to take effect on April 22. These new regulations introduce stricter penalties for various traffic offenses to improve road safety and ensure the proper use of public spaces. One of the key changes involves the use of buggies and bicycles. Driving these vehicles in areas not designated for them will result in a KD 150 fine. If the case goes to court, the penalty could include imprisonment for one to three years and/or a fine ranging from KD 600 to KD 1,000.
Transporting passengers for a fee without the required permit will also incur a KD 150 fine. If the case is taken to court, the punishment could include imprisonment for up to three years and/or a fine between KD 600 and KD 1,000.
Driving on the road shoulder will now be penalized with a KD 75 fine. If the case is referred to court, the penalty may include imprisonment for up to three months and/or a fine ranging from KD 150 to KD 300.
Driving a vehicle that emits loud noises, heavy smoke, or unpleasant odors, or carries an unsecured load, will result in a KD 75 fine. If the case goes to court, the penalty could include imprisonment for up to three months and/or a fine between KD 150 and KD 300.
Driving or parking vehicles on sidewalks or pedestrian-only areas will be subject to a KD 30 fine. If the case is taken to court, the fine could range from KD 50 to KD 100.
