KUWAIT CITY, Nov 30: The Kuwait Task Force (Khaleej) is fully prepared to safeguard the safety and security of the delegations attending the 45th Session of the GCC Supreme Council, set to begin on Sunday, according to the force’s commander, Brigadier Saad Mubarak. In a statement to KUNA on Saturday, Brigadier Mubarak stated that the force had been preparing for the event after the Cabinet assigned the National Guard with ensuring security during the summit. He mentioned that a comprehensive security plan had been put in place for the Sheraton, St. Regis, and Four Points hotels.
Deputy commander Colonel Mutar Bader told KUNA that the force will assist in facilitating the entry of delegations into the hotels while also setting up checkpoints for vehicle and luggage inspections. The National Guard will employ advanced, state-of-the-art equipment to prevent any sabotage attempts, including surveillance cameras and communication devices.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Interior announced the closure of several key roads starting Sunday in preparation for the Gulf Summit Conference.
The closures include:
- King Faisal Bin Abdulaziz Road: Closed from the airport roundabout toward Kuwait City, with traffic diverted to Al-Ghazali Road and Road 6.5. The opposite direction from Kuwait City toward the airport will also be closed, with vehicles redirected to the Sixth Ring Road toward Jahra.
- Sixth Ring Road: Closed from Jahra toward Al-Masilah, with traffic rerouted to King Faisal bin Abdulaziz Road toward Kuwait City. Vehicles coming from Al-Masilah toward Jahra will also be diverted to King Faisal bin Abdulaziz Road.
- King Fahd Bin Abdulaziz Road: Closed from Ahmadi, with vehicles redirected to the Sixth Ring Road toward Al-Masilah. Traffic coming from Madinah will be diverted to the Fifth Ring Road, which will also be closed beyond that point. Vehicles from Kuwait City toward Ahmadi will be redirected to Jahra and Salmiya.
- Subhan Road: Completely closed in both directions.
These closures are part of security and traffic measures to accommodate the Gulf Summit Conference. Drivers are advised to plan alternative routes. Kuwait’s hosting of the 45th GCC Summit on Sunday reflects its strong commitment to supporting the council’s shared goals and strengthening Gulf unity, as stated by Kuwait’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Sheikh Sabah Nasser Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, on Saturday.
In a statement to KUNA, Sheikh Sabah Nasser emphasized that the Summit comes at a crucial time, requiring enhanced coordination and cooperation among member states to address regional and international challenges. He highlighted the importance of efforts to strengthen security and stability, as well as to fulfill the aspirations of Gulf nations for further progress and prosperity. The Kuwaiti ambassador expressed confidence that the Summit would produce key decisions to promote Gulf integration in various fields.
Under the leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, and with the support of His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, Kuwait will continue its constructive role in supporting collective Gulf action and meeting the aspirations of the region’s nations. Sheikh Sabah Nasser stressed the need for joint Gulf efforts, especially in light of ongoing challenges, to enhance solidarity and serve the collective interests of the GCC nations.
In related news, the media center for the 45th GCC Summit is providing logistical and technical support to journalists, said a senior official on Saturday. The Ministry of Information, represented by the Minister of Information and Culture and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi, along with Undersecretary Nasser Muhaiseen, ensured that the center would provide all necessary services to the media. According to Adel Uwaid Al-Meshaan, assistant undersecretary in the media planning division at the Ministry of Information and head of the summit media center, the ministry has allocated all available resources to ensure the success of the summit.
Special committees are coordinating with the GCC Secretariat General, and the ministry has provided participating journalists with statistics and information to support their coverage from the summit venue. An exhibition at the media center is showcasing the achievements of the GCC countries (KUNA).
