Substation Design Engineer – Open Position

Location: Al Habdan Towers, Mangaf Block 4, Street 28, Tower A, Floor 1, Room 11

Responsibilities:

• Develop and apply knowledge of the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) to ensure designs meet safety clearance requirements.
• Provide project management support for substation projects, including managing engineering scope, equipment procurement, change orders, and maintaining project schedules.
• Lead the creation of single-line diagrams, layout drawings, raceway systems, grounding systems, station service, and BOMs for substation design packages.
• Perform technical, cost-saving, and constructability reviews of design packages from internal engineering teams, outsourced subcontractors, and equipment manufacturers.
• Generate equipment specifications, monitor vendor compliance, and oversee factory acceptance testing.
• Work on both outdoor and indoor substation applications.
• Design high voltage power cable systems, including capacity calculations, cable pulling design, cable vault layouts, cable restraint design, and GIS sealing end/air termination applications.
• Perform design calculations for grounding & shielding, rigid bus calculation, battery & charger sizing, AC & DC auxiliary systems, voltage drop calculation, sag & tension calculation, and substation tower/equipment support structure design.
• Conduct power system studies, insulation coordination studies, harmonic analysis, and capacitor bank sizing.

Qualifications:

• Strong analytical skills with a creative problem-solving approach.
• Previous experience in electrical design, particularly in the electrical transmission and distribution industry.
• BSc or MSc in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent relevant qualification).
• Experience working closely with clients and colleagues, with the ability to work independently when required.
• Advanced proficiency in relevant CAD programs to efficiently complete projects on time and accurately.
