Love or Deception? Expat Woman Scammed of KD 78,000 in Marriage Scheme

In an unusual case, a 50-year-old expatriate woman has accused a man in his thirties of defrauding her of KD 78,000 (approximately $250,000) under the false pretense of marriage. The woman provided evidence showing that the man had received significant amounts of money from her. The complaint has been forwarded to the Criminal Security Sector for further investigation, and the suspect is expected to be summoned for questioning.

According to a security source, the woman reported to both the Hawally and Shaab police stations that she had met the man, and the two developed a mutual affection. He proposed marriage but claimed to be facing financial difficulties, asking for her help to resolve his situation so that they could marry without delay. She told investigators that the man assured her he would repay the money and marry her once his financial problems were sorted. Trusting his promises, she transferred the funds in installments, totaling KD 78,000. However, after the man reportedly overcame his financial issues, he allegedly refused to repay the money or proceed with the marriage.

The case has been classified as a misdemeanor involving fraud and deception, and authorities are continuing their investigation.
