Kuwait Introduces Digital Driving Permits for Expats, with Exceptions for Truck Drivers

The General Traffic Department has announced that all types of driving permits are now available in digital format via the Ministry of Interior’s electronic application. However, these digital permits are exclusively for expatriates.

In a statement on its official “X” platform account, the Traffic and Operations Affairs Sector noted that as part of the Ministry of Interior’s ongoing digitization efforts, the printing of various driving permits—such as those for taxi services, ride-hailing services, driving instructors, public buses, mobile taxis, individual driving instructors, and vans—has been discontinued. The digital version available through the Ministry of Interior (MOI) app is now sufficient for these uses.

A security source further clarified that these digital permits are currently intended only for expatriates. However, an exception is made for truck drivers who frequently travel outside Kuwait for work, allowing them to continue using physical driving licenses and permits due to the nature of their jobs.
