In terms of worldwide smartphone sales, Samsung surpasses Apple.
According to data from research firm IDC, Samsung overtook Apple as the world’s largest smartphone vendor in the first quarter of 2024.
Global smartphone shipments increased to 289.4 million units in March of this year, up 7.8% year over year, according to a Forbes report. With a nearly 21% market share, Samsung took the lead, followed by Apple, Xiaomi, a Chinese company, and finally, Samsung.
Compared to the same period last year, when Apple sold 55.4 million iPhones, its first-quarter sales dropped by about 10% to 50.1 million units. This follows Apple’s impressive showing in the fiscal quarter that concluded in December, when it overtook its Korean rival and took the top spot globally.
According to Nabila Popal, research director at IDC, “the smartphone market is emerging from the disruptions of the past two years stronger than ever.” “Samsung looks to be in a stronger position than it has been in recent quarters, while the two largest companies have seen a decline in sales.”
