Officer Sentenced to 7 Years for Assaulting Bangladeshi Carwasher

The Court of Cassation has sentenced an Interior Ministry officer to 7 years in prison for assaulting a Bangladeshi man, leaving him paralyzed after the victim failed to wash his car.

The officer was charged with assault, causing permanent disability estimated at 50% of the body’s total capacity. The Criminal Court initially sentenced him to 10 years. During the appeal, the officer denied the charges, and his lawyer argued for acquittal, citing insufficient investigation and claiming the victim’s injuries were due to a pre-existing condition and delayed reporting.

The Court of Appeal found the evidence, including witness testimonies, the victim’s account, and the forensic medical report, to be accurate and credible. The sentence was revised to 7 years of imprisonment with hard labor.
