4 Ministry workers jailed for tampering with electricity bills

The Court of Appeals sentenced four Ministry of Electricity and Water employees—two Kuwaiti citizens and two expatriates—to four years of hard labor for hacking the ministry’s systems and altering electricity meter bills for commercial complexes in exchange for bribes. Another employee accused of the same crime was acquitted. The Public Prosecution charged the defendants with hacking electricity meters to reduce bills for commercial complexes, gaining substantial financial benefits, and breaching their job duties. Lawyer Ali Al-Asfour, representing the first defendant, argued for his client’s acquittal because he reported the incident, acted as a witness, and provided crucial information. Consequently, the court acquitted him while convicting the other defendants.
