(Organizations): Paul McCartney has finally been reunited with his long-lost bass instrument due to The Lost Bass Project and the steadfast support of devoted Beatles fans. Official word on McCartney’s website states that the legendary Höfner electric bass, which was taken more than 50 years ago, has been restored to the musician.

The discovery comes after months of focused work by a group of enthusiasts who started The Lost Bass Project with the goal of finding McCartney’s 1961 Höfner 500/1 bass guitar, a well-known piece of gear that is sometimes referred to as one of the “most important bass guitars in history.” A unexplained disappearance of the guitar occurred after 1969.
