Blogger’s 2-Year Jail Sentence for Insulting the Amir Upheld

The Court of Appeals has upheld the lower court’s decision to sentence a blogger to two years in prison for insulting the Amir following the suspension of certain constitutional articles. In a previous session, the execution of the sentence was postponed for three years, with bail set at KD 1,000 for good conduct after his release on bail. The Public Prosecution had charged the blogger with offending the Amir through posts on his “X” account, where he publicly challenged the Amir’s rights and authority, including making derogatory comments about the Amir’s position. The charges also included intentional insult using a communication device (a mobile phone) by publishing offensive phrases and comments on his account.
