Court sentences lawyer to jail for blackmail involving money

The Criminal Court has sentenced a lawyer to two years in prison, with a KD1,000 guarantee to suspend the sentence, after convicting him of blackmailing a citizen to obtain KD20,000 and threatening to accuse him of assaulting his client. The court acquitted the accused of forcing the complainant to sign documents proving the existence of a debt, a car sales contract, and a receipt. According to case files, the complainant stated that the lawyer summoned him to his office, blackmailed him, and threatened to accuse him of assaulting his client if he did not pay KD20,000. He also alleged that he was coerced into signing documents proving the debt and a car sales contract, as well as a receipt for the same amount.
