Hotels Might Allow Kuwaitis Who Are Not Married to Make Independent Room Reservations

Have Kuwaiti hotels abandoned their long-standing policy prohibiting them from accepting male or female customers who are single without first needing their wives to accompany them?

This question comes up in the middle of rumors that hotels may be changing their policy to allow Kuwaitis who are single to make independent hotel reservations instead of needing to provide proof of marriage. While it is allowed for Kuwaitis, whether single or married, to book their own hotel rooms, complaints have previously been made about claimed verbal orders from the Ministry of Interior that forbade such stays.

Fahd Abu Shaar, General Manager of St. Regis and Sheraton Kuwait hotels, affirms their commitment to welcoming all guests within the bounds of applicable laws and regulations, reports Al Rai daily. Hotel officials maintain they have not received new security directives contradicting this practice. He makes it clear that neither citizens nor authorized foreigners are legally barred from making hotel reservations or using hotel services.
