Six Executed in Kuwait, Female Prisoner Granted Last-Minute Reprieve

The Ministry of Interior executed six individuals convicted of murder, including two Iranians who killed an elderly man in Salwa. However, the execution of a Kuwaiti woman, convicted of stabbing her friend to death eight years ago, was halted at the last moment after the victim’s mother granted a waiver.

Just eight hours before the execution, Bader Al-Mutairi, known as “the wronged prisoner,” shared details of the situation on social media, describing the tense moments. Al-Mutairi received a call from the women’s prison informing him that the Kuwaiti woman he had spoken about would be executed on Thursday. In response, he made urgent humanitarian appeals, including reaching out to the lawyer of the victim’s family to request a suspension of the death sentence.

Al-Mutairi shared that while he was at Cairo Airport, he received calls stating that the woman would be executed. She had been pleading for help from isolation before her execution, saying, “I beg you, please tell Bader Al-Mutairi not to forsake me.” Al-Mutairi, feeling overwhelmed, contacted several people, eventually reaching the victim’s family lawyer to negotiate a delay in the execution and allow for more time.

During earlier talks to secure a waiver, the victim’s family had demanded KD 7 million in blood money, which the perpetrator’s family could not afford. After numerous discussions, a settlement of KD 1 million was agreed upon, but the victim’s family later reversed their decision and demanded KD 7 million again. After more discussions with the family, the victim’s mother agreed to waive the sentence for KD 1 million and went to the Central Prison hours before the execution to formally submit the waiver.

Al-Mutairi stressed that the Attorney General holds the sole authority to halt executions and praised the Attorney General’s office and the Department of Correctional Institutions for their humane handling of such cases. In his video, he expressed hope for the woman’s swift sentence commutation and highlighted his involvement in humanitarian causes.

Security sources confirmed that the Ministry of Interior suspended the woman’s execution after the victim’s family granted the waiver. The execution was initially scheduled for seven individuals, but only six were carried out as the Kuwaiti woman narrowly avoided execution. Her case dates back to 2016, when she fatally stabbed her friend during a heated argument. Sources revealed that she is a divorced mother of children.
