The Richest Man in Asia Takes the World’s Rich to the Zoo

Leading international stars attended a zoo in India dressed in “jungle fever” costumes as part of an event hosted by the wealthiest man in Asia. Pop sensation Rihanna, Mark Zuckerberg, the inventor of Facebook, and Ivanka Trump, the daughter of Donald Trump, were among the wealthy and well-known individuals who flew in for billionaire Mukesh Ambani’s three-day lavish celebration.

The event this weekend is an extravagant engagement celebration for Anant, the younger son, and Radhika Merchant, the fiancée of affluent pharmaceutical magnates. The three-day celebration proceeded with a visit to a “animal rescue center” that keeps exotic creatures. On Friday, “Umbrella” singer Rihanna sang live for the first time since the Super Bowl of the previous year.

The weekend celebration is being held at the facility, which Anant developed as a pet project in his birthplace of Jamnagar, western Gujarat state. According to reports in Indian media, the Ambani family organized an outdoor event called “Walk on the Wildside” at their animal rescue center.

According to sources, visitors were asked to dress comfortably and adhere to the “jungle fever” dress code. According to accounts, visitors exchanged their safari-themed attire for more sophisticated attire for an evening celebration of Indian culture.

According to Forbes’ list of billionaires, Mukesh Ambani, 66, is the chairman of Reliance Industries, the largest corporation in India based on market capitalization. He is also valued at over $116 billion, making him the tenth richest person in the world. His father left him a flourishing industrial business that included petrochemicals, gas, and oil. He built it into a massive corporation with profitable holdings in retail, telecommunications, and an Indian Premier League cricket franchise.

Reliance has been able to satisfy the rising demand for luxury products among India’s middle class thanks to its collaborations with renowned fashion companies like Burberry, Armani, and Jimmy Choo.

One of Mumbai’s most well-known monuments is Ambani’s family residence, a 27-story tower named Antilia that reputedly cost more than $1 billion to build and employs 600 servants on a permanent basis. Author Arundhati Roy and others attacked it once it was finished in 2010 because it showed how drastically different India’s economic elite is from its impoverished masses. In 2018, Ambani threw his daughter the most extravagant wedding in India to date, reportedly spending $100 million and included American pop sensation Beyonce.

Younger son Anant, 28 – who also serves as a director on the boards of several Reliance-owned firms – is expected to marry Merchant, 29, later this year. This time around, the guest list includes Disney chief Bob Iger, following a deal agreed Wednesday between Reliance Industries and Walt Disney to merge their Indian media businesses.

The merger will create an $8.5 billion entertainment giant in the world’s most populous nation and fifth-largest economy Bollywood stars Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan, cricket icons Sachin Tendulkar and M.S. Dhoni, and industry titan Gautam Adani are also invited in a who’s-who of India’s super-rich. — AFP
