Ministry of Education Strengthens Safety Measures for School Drinking Water

Assistant Undersecretary for Public Education Affairs at the Ministry of Education, Mansour Al-Dhafiri, has directed the general directors of educational districts, the director of the Religious Education Department, and the director of the Special Education Schools Department to ensure the safety of drinking water in schools as part of preparations for the 2024/2025 academic year.

Al-Dhafiri instructed that a circular be sent to all schools, outlining the necessary steps to maintain drinking water systems. This includes coordinating with engineering departments in the educational districts to oversee the maintenance of water networks from the tanks to the point of use. He emphasized the importance of replacing water cooler filters after cleaning and sanitizing the tanks to ensure the water remains safe and free from contaminants.

Educational sources noted that maintaining clean and potable drinking water is crucial for protecting students’ health, as contaminated water can lead to serious illnesses, particularly since children are more vulnerable to infections. They highlighted that a safe educational environment encompasses more than just academic aspects; it also involves providing clean drinking water. Regular maintenance of water systems, including tank cleaning and filter replacement, is essential to prevent the buildup of pollutants and bacteria, which can cause long-term health issues. Coordination with engineering departments is necessary to ensure that maintenance is performed according to best practices and health standards to ensure effectiveness and minimize risks.
