March 2, Los Angeles, (Agencies): Ben Wang, Jackie Chan, Ralph Macchio, and Joshua Jackson are among the star-studded cast of Sony Pictures’ upcoming Karate Kid. According to Sony Pictures, the movie will move the action to the East Coast in addition to advancing the mythos of the franchise. The main character is a Chinese teenager who, with the help of a resilient and astute mentor, uses martial arts to find strength and purpose in life.

The studio revealed that Ralph Macchio will return to his legendary role as Daniel LaRusso from the original Karate Kid film trilogy, while exact story details are being kept under wraps. The late Pat Morita played Macchio, a figure first seen in 1984 when he relocated to California and rose to prominence as a karate champion under the guidance of Mr. Miyagi.
